چکیده

In vitro, growth of Chlamydia trachomatis was not entirely eliminated by 960 micrograms of ticarcillin per ml, 64 micrograms of amoxicillin per ml, 32 micrograms of clavulanic acid per ml, a combination of ticarcillin (480 micrograms/ml) and clavulanic acid (32 micrograms/ml), and a combination of amoxicillin (32 micrograms/ml) and clavulanic acid (8 micrograms/ml). However, a greater than or equal to 99% decrease in the number of inclusions was obtained at concentrations readily attainable in serum.

In Vitro Activities of the -Lactamase Inhibitors Clavulanic Acid, Sulbactam, and Tazobactam Alone or in Combination with -Lactams against Epidemiologically Characterized Multidrug-Resistant Acinetobacter baumannii Strains

Acinetobacter baumannii is an important nosocomial pathogen usually in the context of serious underlying disease. Multidrug resistance in these organisms is frequent. The -lactamase inhibitors clavulanic acid, sulbactam, and tazobactam have intrinsic activity against Acinetobacter strains. To evaluate their potential therapeutic usefulness, we determined the in vitro activity of ampicillin, sul...

In vitro activities of the newer beta-lactam and quinolone antimicrobial agents against Pseudomonas pseudomallei.

Imipenem was highly active and bactericidal against all 100 strains of Pseudomonas pseudomallei tested, followed in activity by piperacillin, carumonam, ceftazidime, cefotaxime, and ceftriaxone. The addition of clavulanic acid significantly increased the activities of both amoxicillin and ticarcillin. Ciprofloxacin and norfloxacin showed poor activity against test strains.

Chlamydia Trachomatis Tonsillopharyngitis

Reports about the extragenital spread of Chlamydia trachomatis (CT) to oropharynx are limited. We report a male patient with progressive tonsillopharyngitis resistant to amoxicillin/clavulanic acid therapy. The patient presented 9 days after an orogenital and oroanal sexual intercourse with a female sex worker. The microimmunofluorescence revealed CT tonsillopharyngitis, and after completing a ...

In vitro activities of BAL9141, a novel broad-spectrum pyrrolidinone cephalosporin, against gram-negative nonfermenters.

The activities of BAL9141 (formerly Ro 63-9141), a novel pyrrolidinone-3-ylidenemethyl cephalosporin, against 244 strains of gram-negative nonfermenters were evaluated. The overall MIC at which 50% of isolates are inhibited (MIC50) and the overall MIC90 were 2 and 64 microg/ml, respectively, which are similar to those of imipenem, lower than those of the other cephalosporins tested, amoxicillin...
